Samsung’s LPDDR3: Improving Memory for Next Generation Smartphones
Yesterday Hank Lai, Samsung’s Semiconductor’s Technical Marketing Manager explained the pressures placed on the power consumption of memory by our high end smartphones. the trend towards ever higher resolution, longer battery life, more memory for more applications and ever lighter smartphones has put a huge strain on memory. Samsung’s solution: the LPDDR3 mobile DDR.The LPDDR3 uses 10 times less power when the phone is in standby when compared to similar DDR’s. the new memory will also allow for higher bandwidth– somewhere around 12.8 GB/s as compared to 8.5 GB/s with the LPDDR2. As even low end phones begin to incorporate HD... Read full post here
